Last year, the Pastoral Team of the Mascouche parishes put forth the project of having a single Easter Vigil for all the French-speaking communities of our Pastoral Region (St-Henri, St-Rosaire, St-Roch and L’Épiphanie). The first edition went well in St-Henri. This year, we are all invited to Epiphany, on Holy Saturday, March 30th, at 7:30 p.m.
An Easter Vigil will also take place for our anglophone community, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, also at 7:30 p.m.
Since Ash Wednesday, we have been walking more intensely in the footsteps of Christ, who goes up to Jerusalem to die and rise again. This pilgrimage will culminate on the night of the first Saturday following the first full moon after the spring equinox, to celebrate brilliantly, as all generations of believers have since the origins of the Church, what constitutes the heart of our faith: the resurrection of Christ. To clearly underline the most important feast of our liturgical calendar, we take the time to celebrate a liturgy rich in signs in 4 stages: the Light, the Word, Baptism and the Eucharist. Let us not forget that all our Sunday gatherings are weekly reminders of this Easter Night, of our faith in Jesus, conqueror of death, and of our certainty that he is still alive and active today. Will we respond “present” to this invitation to celebrate together?
LITURGY OF LIGHT
When the celebration begins, the church is plunged into darkness to clearly demonstrate that we are still watching over the Lord’s tomb. Suddenly, firelight comes forth: a sign of the resurrection of Jesus and the definitive victory of God over death and sin. At this fire, we light the large Paschal Candle which opens the procession which solemnly advances towards the place of the Word. Gradually, the Light spreads to the entire assembly. After the incensing of the Candle, a song of acclamation is proclaimed, to which everyone responds by lifting their candles: “We praise you, splendour of the Father, Jesus, Son of God! »
