What is Eucharistic Adoration?
Adoration of the Holy Eucharist, or Eucharistic Adoration, is an opportunity for the faithful to pray to Jesus Christ before the Eucharist at their local parish.
But what makes praying during Eucharistic Adoration any different than the prayers you say throughout your daily life?
As Catholics, we believe the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus are physically present in the Eucharist. In other words, when you participate in Eucharistic Adoration, you pray and worship Jesus in a more intimate, present and real way.
The Eucharist is placed in a Monstrance, a vessel with a clear centre, through which we can see, and adore our Lord.
Most Monstrances have golden rays shining out from them, representing Christ’s love and blessings radiating out towards the faithful present at Adoration.
What do we do in Eucharistic Adoration?
Pray – You can pray for yourself, a loved one, or for community intentions. Remeber: Prayer can be as simple as talking to Jesus about your day!
Pray the Rosary- The Rosary is an excellent way to spend time in Adoration, as each decade is a meditation on a story from the Life of Christ.
Read – Read scripture, a devotional book, a religious book, etc. You can start small, such as just reading one Psalm over and over.
Write in a Prayer or Gratitude Journal – Just grab a notebook and a pen, and get writing. The good, the bad, whatever comes to mind. Share it with Jesus as the words hit the page.
Be There – In our ever busy world, where we always have to be going somewhere, doing something, Eucharistic Adoration can just be a time when we sit quietly in the presence of the Lord. Just sit, and feel how much Jesus loves you.
“When you look at the crucifix, you understand how much Jesus loved you then. When you look at the Sacred Host, you understand how much Jesus loves you still. “ ~St Mother Teresa
